#10 Who's That? GORR THE GOD BUTCHER

Updated: Jan 27, 2021

Welcome to another great post of the series 'Who's That?' where we tell you about the new and upcoming superheroes in the MCU.

To most fans, Gorr The God Butcher will be an unknown Marvel character. He will be played on the big screen by Christian Bale and he is set to be the prime antagonist of the upcoming MCU 2022 release Thor: Love and Thunder, starring Chris Hemsworth, Natalie Portman, and many more.

This villain was a rather odd choice, for movie director Taika Waititi. Instead of choosing from a plethora of characters from Marvel's Bronze or Golden Age, or maybe even from the Modern Age, the character chosen had debuted very recently in the comic ' Thor: God of Thunder #2'. The character was created by Jason Aaron and Esad Ribic and the storyline that followed was voted to be an all-time favorite.

Coming from a dark world, with not many resources. A harsh childhood, his people believed in gods. When his family died, he lost all his beliefs and was cast out of his tribe. When he came to know that gods do exist, but did not help those in need like his family, he became the God Butcher.

He nearly kills Thor as a child, if it hadn't been for the Vikings, we would never have seen Thor. Gorr's story involves time travel too. He travels to the future where an old Thor is the last Asgardian remaining and Gorr is about to unleash the Godbomb, a bomb created to wipe out every that was, is, and will be. But Gorr's son stands against his father, gives Thor the power to survive the bomb, and finally, Thor kills Gorr with 2 Mjölnirs.

Gorr possesses the All-Black The Necrosword, which was feared even by Galactus. This blade was created by Knull, leader of the Symbiote race and it was a very powerful weapon. It gave its user many abilities, like the power of flight, and even created sharp little knives that could kill the mightiest of gods.

in the comics, Gorr's consciousness was captured by the ancient All-Black. He left a large impression on Thor, who was thereafter deemed unworthy to lift Mjölnir. Gorr tried to consume Thor by creating a black hole from within the All-Black but was distracted by King Loki. Thor used this time to unleash the full might of Mjölnir and permanently destroyed the All-Black symbiote.

With such an awesome character arc and a truly mind-blowing story, it will be a treat to see this being recreated in the upcoming Thor film.

So this is Gorr: The God Butcher.
